January 16-22: First week of class

This was the first "real week" being in Florence. We are finally settled in our new home stays, orientation meetings are over, and the "pinch me" sign that I'm not in a dream: classes are beginning. But no worries! I'm very excited for class (especially Italian) because I feel retarded every time I try to communicate with a localand can't understand one word. My other classes are:
Masterpieces of Art, Sketchbook drawing, Etruscans and Romans, and digital photo. All of them seem cool.So this week I mainly spent starting classes and getting acquainted with Florence. On tuesday Anna and I walked down to the center near the Duomo (never gets old walking by that old dome) to get our school books, and we also happened to stumble upon a delicious gelateria called Grom, lots of gelato for 2 euro, not too shabbyyy. On Wednesday, in my digital photo class, we went to a museum in Florence called the Strozzina. It was really cool. I saw some nice photo exhibits, an interesting docume
ntary on Dubai called Citytellers, and there was also a really cool exhibit that was a huge box filled with mirrors and lights that you could walk in and around.

Friday, I had a class field trip to Assisi. I was very excited for this trip because
I've heard a lot of good things about Assisi and it's great beauty. However, the weather did not want to reveal the beauty of Assisi for me on this day :(. The trip was pretty cold and rainy so I didn't end up loving Assisi as much as I'd hoped, but St. Francis Basilica was really pretty, and I could tell that the town definitely had potential...hopefully I can go back when the weather is better :)
Ok, now here come some pics.....

January 10, 2011: Day of no sleep

The eight hour flight to Frankfurt really wasn't bad. We were served dinner, we had a variety of movies to watch and were able to pass the time pretty painlessly. Upon landing in Frankfurt, it was bright and early in the morning.....for the Europeans, (2:30AM for us). We were all just about ready to crawl into bed and fall asleep. However, our schedule planners didn't take into account our sleeping schedule. Instead of letting us go to the hotel and get our much needed and desired sleep, we were led to do the opposite. A walking tour of Florence, to the SU campus and then a wonderful day of orientation meetings. It's safe to say I could be caught snoozing in a corner in all of the meetings.

8:30, or 2:30 am?
